Spontaneous Getaways!

I love that my husband treats me like a princess. I love that he surprises me with trips and does an incredible job at planning them. This weekend we left suburbia U.S.A for something a little more country. And let me tell you, we were in the country! We drove 3 hours to Canyon Lake, TX, where we stayed at the FireFly bed and breakfast. We got there Friday night and went straight to the hot tub. We woke up Saturday to breakfast in bed, then slept until the afternoon. After we got ready, we went to Canyon Lake and sat on the rocks, watching the water move. No schedule, no demands. Just Patrick and me, all alone. Oh my soul! It was a wonderful trip. Here is something I wrote in my journal:

"Going to Canyon Lake was wonderful. It was as though we were removed from expectations, traffic and time. It was a sunny but cool afternoon. We sat on rocks and dipped our toes into the very cold water. It was so refreshing. The sound of water flopping onto the rocks was our background music. Boats passing, birds chirping, the wind blowing - ah, could it get any better? These are the days we live for. The days where nothing matters and time stands still. You play all day and finally you go to sleep...but only because the sun is down. Could you blame me for wanting this kind of day, everyday?"

We headed over the the Guadalupe River and took a few pics, then drove around the country side. Oh, how I wish you could have been with us! Windows down, music playing and long roads ahead of us. It was beautiful. We stopped to get some water and found clip-on sunglasses for Patrick (see picture). This had to be on of my favorite memories. After a long drive, we went back to our room to figure out a place to eat. We settled on a near-by city called Gruene (say it: Green). It was a historic city, full of interesting landmark signs and lots of people.

(more journaling:)

"We visited the city of Gruene this evening. It was fascinating. Antique stores, historic sights...this place made me heart yearn for a longer day! We walked around and tried to blend in with the other tourists. My loud laugh along with Patrick's sense of humor made it hard to steer clear from weird looks. We ate at a restaurant that use to be a cotton mill and it appropriately overlooked the Guadalupe River. It was so fun and the food was great."

My goal for the weekend was to spend some quality time reflecting on my life and read through the copy of Real Simple that was in our room. I spent many hours on the porch writing and on the couch reading. Not to mention that Patrick and I had a great time being together and making memories. And I love making memories! This trip was wonderful. I can't wait to go back!

Ooooh! So much fun! Gruene is one of my favorite central Texas places. Did you see lots of pretty wildflowers? That's the thing I miss most not living Austin this spring.

Oh, man, what an awesome time! I'm so glad you got to do this. You will be thankful for the different parts of Texas you were able to experience!

Aaron set up the computer here in Florida, so it's been fun to keep up blogging and checking up on you! It's still pretty chilly, but that hasn't kept my boys from getting wet in the kiddie pool here and jumping in the ocean fully dressed.

Yesterday we went to the Florida caves, that was cool. The boys got bat rings from the tour guide afterwards. I'll put pics on the blog soon. I knew you'd like my graffiti artist post! :)

Call/email anytime! I love ya, babe. Miss you, too
