Hey family, friends and whoever else reads this:
April is here! The weather is getting warmer, but we are suppose to get a "cold" front sometime. I think they said it was going to go down into the 70's during the day :) Ah well, we love Texas and all is has to offer!
March was a great month for us. We were able to do a lot of fun things. We went to the rodeo, which is a big deal in Houston. It is probably one of my favorite things we do here in Texas. I love the cowboy hats and the BBQ, the animals and the quilt displays. I really enjoy it all. We got to the rodeo site early and walked around, looking at all the rodeo had to offer: Animals, food, rides, games and a ton of other random things. Then we headed to Reliant Park for some good ol rodeo fun. I enjoy watching the cowboys hold on for their dear lives to stay on top of a big, wild horse or steer. I'm getting more Texan everyday. After all the events, Alan Jackson put on a great concert. We had fun singing along and trying to stay warm (we were directly under the largest air conditioning unit I have EVER seen!)
We also went to a Scottish Festival that is put on by a local Episcopal high school. It was so fun. Bagpipes, dancing girls, drums...very impressive. I made me want to live in Scotland, or at least visit. Patrick surprised me with a weekend trip to Canyon Lake, Texas. It's about 3 hours away. (in "Hill Country" where hills flow for a few hours and then you are back to flatness. It's very beautiful.) We stayed at an incredible Bed & Breakfast (where they brought us breakfast in bed!!!!) and relaxed as much as possible. We went to Canyon Lake and walked around, stopped and looked at the Guadalupe River, drove around and admired the scenery, and saw a few Zebras. We had dinner in a restaurant that used to be an old cotton mill. That was really fun. It was so nice to get away and make fun memories together.
Patrick had a snorkeling class the other week to prepare for his trip to the Bahamas. He got some really cool gear and graciously showed me how the stuff worked and how to snorkel (out of water ::grin::). He is still enjoying his job. His new mentor is from the Middle East and speaks Arabic. He often calls me and speaks to me in Arabic. Very romantic language, just kidding. It's quite funny. But he has learned a few words and I think that's really awesome of him. He is doing a great job leading our community group. I'm so proud of him for being teachable and teaching well. He has such an incredible heart and personality. (I enjoy bragging on my husband...thank you for listening, in fact, I'm sure you all agree!)
I learned to quilt this week and I'm really enjoying it. I'm nearly done with my first "square". I plan on framing that and moving on to something bigger :) We had a Ladies Retreat last weekend and it was so much fun. We stayed up late and had girl talk, ate lots of goodies and had some great time in God's Word. I really love getting to know the women in our church, they are really fun and very wise. The bible study I was doing ended and now I'm on the lookout for Wednesday morning entertainment. Please send suggestions.
I must give a shout out to the Mountaineer Men's Basketball team for making it to the Sweet 16. And for those of you wondering, we TOTALLY cheered on the 'eers when they played Texas. Boooooooo Longhorns, West Virginia forever! Plus, we're A&M fans :)
Well, that's all. I hope you all had a great March and that April will be even better. We love you all and miss you all.
Stay cool, or warm...depending on where you live :) and be blessed!
Much Love,
Patrick and Ashley
