Weekend in DC

One of my best friends, Katie, lives in Washington DC. She does campus ministry at American University through the Coalition for Christ Outreach. She's pretty much wonderful. I've known Katie since high school. We didn't start hanging out a lot until we met up at Crusade in college. But since then, we've had our ups and downs and have managed to stay good friends and even grow closer through it all. That's a real friend. I'm blessed that Katie is in my life.

(The Washington Memorial taken from the WWII Memorial...there was a huge fountain at the WWII Memorial!)

Last Thursday was her 25th birthday, so I drove to DC on Friday to celebrate with her! When I got there, I was able to see the church she works at, AU's campus and even meet some students she works with. We made dinner (and cupcakes, of course!) and then drove downtown to see the Memorials all bright and shiny (they are beautiful at night!). We also saw the World War II Memorial. It's somewhat new and I've never seen it before. It was really fantastic!

(Lincoln, of course. How could I go to DC and not visit the memorial for the president during the Civil War?)

On Saturday, we drove to Delaware. Katie LOVES the beach...and the bay bridge...so it was only appropriate that we spend a gorgeous day at the beach (and go over the bay bridge to get there). It took us about three hours to get to Rehoboth beach. We spent four hours laying out, playing in the water and eating boardwalk food! Then we drove home and watched a movie with Katie's roommate.

(The Bay Bridge through the mirror. I thought it was pretty cool....)

(Kate and I on the beach...right before my hair got wet...)Katie works at The National Presbyterian Church in DC. In case you were wondering, Condelezza Rice attends this church and it was my hearts desire to see her. However, she was out of the country, so I missed my chance. Bummer. The service was nice and very traditional.

I had a great time hanging out with my dear friend. We kept saying, "this is so normal...it's so nice to have normal right now." It was indeed. There is such a blessing in a good friend.

(Isn't this a great picture? We asked some guy to take it and he also took pictures of his "buddies". It was so weird. They were really old. But we got an awesome picture!)

I love the picture of the WWII memorial. And of course you HAD to take a picture of Abe Lincoln. You are too funny. I'm glad that you and Katie had a good time.
