Hunting Camp...

Patrick loves to hunt, I think I've mentioned that before. I mean, the guy really loves it. Pre me and pre Texas, there was this thing called "Hunting Camp" at the Lodge every year. Basically it was/is a bunch of hunting men in camo, eating a lot of food, sleeping, sharing deer stories, cutting up the deer they killed and so on. Man time, indeed.

Fast forward to this week. Opening day was Monday and thus, hunting camp began. Only this year, hunting camp was at the farm and I was there. I didn't realize what a big deal this was! I had a lot to learn. Patrick and I got up around 4:00am and got ready, then headed out to the farm both Monday and Tuesday. Obviously you have to be there in time to get into your stand (or whatever) before daylight. I could have slept in and rolled in much later, but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. More so, I wanted to be there to support Patrick and serve him by just being around.

Carol and I stayed around the camper all day (both Monday and Tuesday). We cooked and talked and watched random TV shows. We did dishes and slept and read. We walked around outside, we listened to deer stories and we did our best to watch for hunters. At any given point, we fed six people. Not to mention that last night for dinner we fed about 12.

My favorite part of the last two days was patrolling our property. There are a lot of people who hunted on our land for years before we bought it. We're not up for liability issues, so if you're not family (or a family friend) you're illegal! Frank, Carol and I drove around on Monday morning just to make sure no one was hunting on our property. I gave people the evil eye and occasionally yelled out the car window, "PRIVATE PROPERTY". (Although the land is well posted!)

Hunting camp is still going on and will be for the rest of the week. Even though Patrick and I are back in the real world, it won't take long to get back into the hunter's world. Just a short drive and we're in Patrick's Paradise and I love that for my husband.

Of course, here are some hunting camp pictures...
Wouldn't you be intimadated by this?!
Patrick and James getting ready to go out for the afternoon hunt...
The first deer at hunting camp. Ryan (left) caught it and he and Patrick skinned it... that was gross, but kinda cool too :)
An orange vest...just incase someone looked a little to deer-y :)

ok, i'm not one to comment, we all know this. But, just to clear it up for everyone. You don't "catch" deer. (as the picture shows, this deer was most definitely not caught) :)

Great post sweetheart!

Daggon, Patrick beat me to it. Listen, I would have said/wrote the same thing. But, I'm glad that Patrick is back in the land of hunting, and hunting camp is going well. I want to come up and ride the 4-wheeler to check out the deer, bear and of course see you and Patrick, Carol, Frank and the rest of the gang.

Coulda done without the pic of the strung up deer (I protected my daughter from such a sight, but really maybe just protected myself!) but glad Patrick is enjoying the time. Do you EVER have to buy meat?! :-)

Does anyone know of a good "I've seen a really sad and disgusting dead deer picture" support group? Just wondering?

Yes, I laughed at the "caught" a deer. So cute, Ashley (kind & sweet, as I would expect from you). :)

You catch a dog out of his yard, or a fly ball or a cold. But a deer? ...not so much. However, I bet the deer WISH you'd just catch them on hunting day...

Hope to see you guys soon! :)
