A letter to the editor...or whatever...

To all the people in the world with dogs:

Hello. You don't know me and I probably don't know you either. I love taking my dog places with me and just hate to leave him home alone, I'm sure you can agree with these feelings. However, it has been brought to my attention that some dogs just don't like being in a car alone in a parking lot for an extended amount of time. In fact, sometimes when your dog gets angry that he/she is in the car alone for an extended amount of time, he/she will bark as passers-by and proceed to thrust themselves at the innocent passers-by, scaring them and causing screams.

I, too, am glad that our dogs love us enough to protect us. May I suggest giving your dog a chew toy or something familiar in the car to entertain him/her? Perhaps it may be best to just leave man's best friend at home for those few hours. I'm sure Fido dislikes being in a car while it's cold and rainy as much as you like being in a cold, musty basement for hours.

Let's work together to make dogs less angry and people more considerate!

Thank you and sincerely,
Ashley M. McBride

P.S. To my blog readers: I found a lovely parking space at the Y today and walked by this huge SUV and heard a dog barking. Bummer for him, I thought. As I walked closer to the vehicle the barking dog threw himself to the window and scared the crap out of me (not literally, just for clarification.) and I, indeed, did scream. I thought for sure he was coming through the window at me! When I left the Y, an hour and twenty minutes later, the car and the dog were still there. Geeeeshh.
