Thinking through my vote

It's no doubt that this year has been an interesting year in politics. This presidential campaign is certainly different from all the others on so many levels. I'm not a political guru, nor do I allow myself to be completely uninformed. But this year, I've really had to do my research to even come close to thinking about where my vote will go.

I'm not a fan of the "if you're a Christian, you'll vote republican" band wagon. This is not to say that I haven't done it, because I have. While the republican party usually holds the same moral values that I do, it's not always the case. This year has been one for the books in figuring out who is who and what they believe and support.

Honestly, I don't like either presidential candidate. I haven't from the beginning and was pretty disappointed that Romney or Huckabee did get the nomination. However, I only have two choices at this point and my vote counts. I decided to leave my nomination up to the choice of VP.

"Obama, why in the world did you choose Biden?!" I would like to ask him that. I feel (this is MY opinion) that Obama really put himself out there and tried hard to reach the conservative party. He shared about this past, his beliefs and his faith. I think he was doing pretty good, actually. Then Biden came along. The most out spoken, liberal guy in politics. I'm sure that most people just want Obama and they'll vote for him no matter what. I also think VP matters and just can't justify Biden. I wanted to believe in Obama's change, but not with Biden in tow.

McCain, I didn't really like you from the beginning and now your stupid ads on TV are really annoying me. This guy is old and I'm pretty sure that he's going to die before the term ends. Sure he's got a lot of great military and political credentials, but I just don't feel like he's all together. John McCain is pretty liberal for a republican, if I may be stereotypical (and it's my blog, so I guess I can). He just hasn't said anything to make me want to choose him. I was shocked, at first, with his VP pick. I was certain Romney would be a shoe in and make a great VP. I don't know much about Sarah Palin, but so far there's not much stopping me from liking her.

I don't want to be one of those people who votes republican because that's what Christians do. I don't want to vote and not know who or what I'm standing for, or against. This race is hard. Even now, I can't say who will get my vote. But, with my dislike of both candidates and the VP choices out, I'm leaning toward McCain/Palin, but only because I don't like Biden. This is going to be a long three months of research. I can only say one more thing: I am so glad that GOD is sovereign.

Amen for God's sovereignty over our government! I am with you on so many things you say here...nothing makes me crazier than those emails you get forwarded to you claiming that Obama is the antichrist because he's a Democrat, or something equally ridiculous. I agree that the choices are not great this year, so it's wonderful to know that God already knows the outcome of the election and it's all part of His plan.
