The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas

This past weekend, Patrick and I drove up to Dallas/Fort Worth. Our original plan was to go and spend a day at the State Fair of Texas. So I packed up the car, including the dog and all he needs, picked up Patrick from work and off we went.

We stayed with our friends David and Cayla and hung out with them Friday night. We stayed up and talked for a long time. It's nice having friends with whom you can talk as though you've spent everyday with them, when actually it's been several months since you've talked about anything. Piper was completely overjoyed to find that David and Cayla have two dogs. Their dogs were not as excited to see Piper. It was very humorous to watch Piper try to pounce and play with these calm, older dogs. Funny.

So Saturday morning rolls around and we take our time leaving the house. David and Cayla had other things to do, so Patrick and I headed to Dallas. We sat in traffic for a bit, then hunted for a cheap parking spot. Once we were parked we headed in. It wasn't at all what I expected it to be. Patrick had come to the fair as a child so this whole event was very nostalgic for him. I was just along for the support and a sno-cone. Patrick and his brother have a "brick" on Paradise walk at the fair. We found the brick and took some pictures. It was really neat to see my husband's name surrounded by thousands of others who we may never, ever know.

The fair turned out to be very fun. It's nice having someone to walk around and giggle with. We saw Big Tex, the Texas Star (a huge ferris wheel), arts and crafts and the world famous card stacker. After we walked around a bit, we got a turkey leg. It was huge and oddly enough, tasted like ham. Patrick thinks there is some kind of conspiracy with the fairground turkey legs. He makes me laugh. I got a sno-cone and Patrick got an ice cream sandwich to finish off our day. We ended up leaving pretty early. So much for an all day event.

After the fair, we met David and Cayla and we all walked around a shopping area then went to a great Italian restaurant for dinner. It was a great weekend. I'm glad I went along.
