Will You heal this land?

Lately, I've been very convicted to pray for our nation. Not just the people or the president, but for the nation as a whole and all that entails. I'm constantly heartbroken as I sit before God and cry out to Him, praying for the United States.

I never thought about praying for our country too often. Perhaps once a year, maybe once a month, if I remembered. How sad that I live in this place, get frustrated in this place, yet forget to call on the God who can save this place.

The verse that I pray most often is from 2 Chronicles: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." v.14. It seems only appropriate to plead God's mercy and forgiveness on our nation because I know very well that many people who live here don't even know the Lord to pray for these things. And I, most of all, need His mercy and forgiveness.

As believers in this unbelieving nation (world!), we're called to pray for those around us, for those beyond us and those above us. I'm amazed when I read the news and find that people are still killing people, that abortion is still taking place, that people are believeing science and evolution more than a Creator and creation, that people all over the world are trying very hard to prove God wrong, or that the race for the presidency is full of lies and condemnation. I can't help but think that the Lord is indeed coming back soon.

This nation was founded on God's ways, His word. Our founding fathers built this country with the Lord as the foundation. I know full well that these men were not perfect and that there will always be a level of corruption in government (sad, but true), but they knew that success was dependent on the God we served. How troublesome that our current laws are being made with the intention to better man to serve himself, instead of bettering a nation to serve God.

Won't you partner with me and pray diligently for our nation? Pray for the laws that have been made, the laws that are in the process of being made and the laws that will be made in the future. Pray for God to raise up godly politicians. Pray for God's mercy on this sinful nation; pray for His forgiveness. Let's unite together and stand up for Who we believe in.

"Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Gal 6:9
