Dumb and Dumber

Admit it, you laughed really hard when you saw Dumb and Dumber. I would be willing to bet that some of you can quote a few lines from the movie. I saw it and I enjoyed it. But, this post isn't about a movie, it's about me.

I was making dinner tonight. I love to make dinner. I love to cook. Mostly, I love the recipe I was making: Herb Crusted Pork tenderloin with sauteed garlic and onions and green beans. This may be one of my favorite meals!

I was happily chopping onions and garlic, melting butter and browning pork tonight. I checked out the recipe to see what was coming next and turned on the oven to warm up. In fact, I turned it to 375 degrees. I thought that I would save time and dishes by just putting the pan (in which I browned the pork and melted the butter) in the oven, rather than getting out a baking dish. Fine idea. It worked wonderfully. The pork looked great and I took it out to finish cooking the rest of the food.

I turned around, grabbed the chopped onions and garlic, then tossed them into the pan. I grabbed a spatula, then the handle of the pan and OOOOOOUUUUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHHHH! Yea, I grabbed the handle of the pan that was in the oven at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. I screamed, loudly, and Patrick came running down the stairs (sweet man.). As usual, the burn wasn't too painful at first. I ran my hand under cold water and got back to making dinner.

Moving on, I was careful not to grab the handle this time and stirred my little onions and garlic. I poured the wine in, the broth, and stirred again. Only this time, I hit my wrist on the handle. My mind was filled with words I could have said, but that would not have made the situation any better. So, I turned on the cold water again and stuck my hand AND wrist under the running water.

So, as I type this my right hand has several bubbly spots on it and my wrist is bright red. I can't tolerate the pain of hot water on my hand and I'm quite annoyed with my carelessness in the kitchen tonight. I will tell you that the first thing that crossed my mind after I burned my hand was, "Shoot, I won't be able to lift weights on Wednesday." Funny.

Learn from my mistake, please. Do NOT touch the handle of a pan that has been in an oven for 20 minutes at 375 degrees.

(For the record: I used an oven mit to get the pan out of the oven. )

My heart when I read this, even though you had already told me about it. I hope they heal soon. Love you!
