Tonight, the Indiana Free Library (aka the pubic library in Indiana) is having a fundraiser. It's called "Evening in the stacks" and there will be light dinner served, live music, wine and coffee - all from locals places donating their time and goodies! I love events like this... mostly because I get to dress up, meet people and enjoy good things!
I was asked by the owner of the Commonplace Coffee shop (the place I always go...) to help them out tonight. Not only do I get to go in for free, but I get to help out TJ and his wife, Julie serve coffee to (hopefully) hundreds of people. However, if they don't need my help, I'm free to wander around.
Since I volunteer at the library, this event has become a big deal to me because I know how much help the library needs. Community events are such a wonderful way to make something so much bigger than it is (in this case, the local library)- and I don't necessarily mean financially. How neat to know that because someone is going to come to this event, their child may start coming to story time, and that child may grow up to become a librarian or have a heart to start a library somewhere. SO many things could happen in just one night.
I love being apart of a small town for things like this. Everyone is invited and welcomed and it brings the community closer because you're bound (and in my case, determined) to meet someone new. So as I hurry along to get to the library by 5:30, my heart is so content knowing that the Lord has so graciously brought this place (the library) into my life.
Do you have something in your town that you love to be apart of?

Yes, it's called "driving away" no, no, I'm being mean. Fourth of July is our "thang" around here.
Sounds like such fun. I hope you served hundreds!! I'd have to say WVU Homecoming. Even though I didn't attend WVU, growing up here has a way of making you a part of WVU, the traditions, the football and the Homecoming parade. Of course, I love all of the hometown parades.
