My very dear friend, Nancy, got married today. It was fun to be apart of the wedding because I watched their relationship from the beginning. It was so neat to see God's plan unfold as we walked together through her dating relationship with Will, her engagement and now her marriage!
Nancy asked me to do things here and there. As the wedding got closer, I found more things to take care of. I loved being able to bless, encourage and help Nancy have the best wedding. Eventually, I turned into her wedding coordinator.
So as the rehearsal was going on last night, I had a glimpse of what was in store for me on the wedding day. People to talk to, things to be done, time to be kept, places to remember, notes to take. I thought, for sure, I would end up not enjoying the wedding as a whole - but I loved it. It was hard work (thanks, Katie. I love you!) and it got stressful a few times, but everything went so smoothly and several people asked if I did this professionally.
It was fun day. Nancy and Will had a simply elegant wedding with true love overflowing from them as they stood at the alter and shared vows of commitment. The reception was fun with great food, a homemade cinnamon roll cake (her extended family owns a bakery, yum!), an awesome band and a little polka!
I think I would rather be a bridesmaid next time, less commitment, less responsibility. But honestly, no one gets to be apart of your wedding day like the coordinator. That's the girl you want by your side at all times, the one who can take care of anything (or make it seem that way), the person you trust wholeheartedly and love dearly enough to hand your wedding plans over to. It's quite an honor. So, maybe I would do it again.
