We took the EuroStar from London to Paris. The ride was nice and I think I now prefer trains to planes. The French country side was incredible - just what I expected it to be, but more than I could have imagined. This is what I wrote in my journal,
"The houses are old. They're ancient, full of stories, they're beautiful. Differnt shapes, sizes, some with additional buildings, some with farms, some side by side in small towns. I try to overlook the newer homes and developments. I prefer to think of this French countryside as it was years ago -untouched, fresh, innocent and now, antique."
Once we were in Paris, we checked into our hotel and made our way to see Sacre Cur . It was on top of a hill, which you could see almost anywhere, and well worth the climb. Maybe not so much for the beautiful building, but more so for the quaint streets we walked through. Streets lined with shops, cafes, and markets, untainted by tourism. It was really just as I expected Paris to be.
We decided to use the rest of the day for the Eiffle Tower. While we were waiting in line for our tickets it started raining. Not too bad, you may say, until the sleet hammered us! We made it through just fine and were laughing because the weather is really insane. We walked the (350) stairs to the second level and admired the incredible view! It was super windy. However, we still had 600 more feet to go because we decided to go all the way to the top (900 feet up). Luckily we took a lift to the top and not stairs! I was not as excited as Patrick was because at some point over the last four years of my life, I've developed an uneasiness with heights. Either way, it was very, very windy up on the top level, but completely worth it. It was so beautiful and you could see everything!
We came down from the eiffle tower and walked back to our B&B to change and get ready for dinner. We stuck close to home and walked about 50 feet to a great little cafe. The food was fantastic and I had plate envy. Patrick got roasted chicken and it had a wonderful flavor! Oh France, how I miss your food... Glad we'll be going back in the next few years. Until then, I'm determined to learn how to cook French food!
Our first glimpse of the eiffle tower. Turns out, it was a few blocks from our B&B. HA!
Patrick and I, with the tower graciously posing with us.
