Adventures in sleepy land...

Since the grand "bed upgrade" in our house, sleeping has been sort of an issue. Please, let me take you on a pictorial view of the last few days in the McBride home. Specifically, Benjamin's bedroom and sleeping habits....

Most of you know that B has never been a good or consistent sleeper, but as he has gotten older it's been a little better. Let's just start with last Friday, shall we? Here is where B ended up sleeping for nap time. This was after several jumps from the crib and before the toddler bed was set up.

Patrick lovingly converted the crib into a toddler bed Friday evening. A note to JCPenney: You have the worst crib to toddler bed conversion idea, ever. A hole in the middle means my child will roll out!

Either way, he was pretty excited about it and jumped in and out several times. In fact, it's been so much fun having a toddler bed that he doesn't even like to sleep! There are books to read! Animals to play with! Cars to move!
The first two nights were the hardest. He woke up at 4:20am and played for an hour before I went upstairs and told him to go to bed. Nap times were far worse. He would nap for 20 minutes, 40 minutes. Never too long.

And then here we have our sweet boy reading with daddy. So tired from not sleeping all week, he fell asleep on the couch...and then slept for three hours! Glory!
This has nothing to do with sleeping. I just needed to show you how squirrelly my child is. He realized that his cereal was still on the table about an hour after breakfast. Clearly it could not go to waste. He climbed onto his chair and then somehow thought it would be best to propel himself onto the table and lay there and eat the cereal. By the time I got the picture, he was sliding off and saying, "help, momma. uh-ohs." Please imagine him more on the table and eating soggy Kix with his hands! Oh, boys.
Finally, nap time today. I laid him in his bed and we read and prayed. I then heard him moving around and finally silence. I waited about 20 minutes and made my way to his room to find him sleeping in the chair...with two books...and a car. He was in the most awkward position, so I took a few pictures and then moved him back into the bed.

I'm hoping this transition is done and over with by this coming weekend. I know he's still little and is enjoying the freedom, but there has got to be a tiredness limit! No matter what, I'm enjoying this season.

I don't mind that my sweet baby is in a toddler bed. In fact, I think it's pretty fun (although much earlier than I had anticipated). I've always tried to be mindful to enjoy Benjamin wherever he was. I loved when he was a baby, and every stage since has proven to be more challenging and more joyful. I love that I have the privilege of watching him change and grow. How could I be sad about my boy growing, when my job is to love and teach and encourage and discipline this little boy...who will someday do the same for his own children?! Ah, let's the adventures keep on coming!

it has taken us about a week, but Ava is napping again in her toddler bed. Granted, this is only day 2 of napping regularly. We had the same problems, and a few added ones like her waking at 2am and screaming, (I mean screaming) at the top of her lungs. But, today didn't take nearly as long, and she is sleeping soundly.. whohooo!! I hope it continues to get better for you. I imagine if we ever got these two little ones together all the trouble they'd be!
